Early Years

Curriculum

Early Years
Estudiantes de primaria del BSA leyendo en el suelo

This educational stage consists of two year groups and it focuses on seven key learning areas that are taught through a selection of carefully planned, teacher-led activities, using a topic-based approach that incorporates the use of both our inside and outdoor areas.

The curriculum focuses on the importance of effective learning through play and the positive social and emotional development of our children. The areas that we work in are essential for developing a young child’s capacity to learn and thrive:

  • Personal, social, and emotional development

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Art and Design

Primary

Innovative learning

Our primary school curriculum is very broad and offers our students the opportunity to discover the world through a range of different topics and learning areas. The primary curriculum is divided into two stages: Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6).

  • We provide an interdisciplinary approach of knowledge through a range of different subjects.
  • From “Primary” upwards, students have the opportunity to join our “School Clubs” during school hours where they
can develop new experiences and hobbies.
Secondary
Innovative learning
Secondary students not only consolidate their academic skills and competencies, but they also learn to make decisions based on their personal strengths and passions.
  • Our students study the subjects of the British National Curriculum as well as Spanish language and culture/humanities.

  • Whilst continuing to improve their Spanish, they start to study a third language: French or German.

In addition to core subjects, they can choose from a wide range of electives: from Art and Design to Business Studies.

  • We prepare students for the IGCSE exams.

  • In the last year, they have the opportunity to participate in a one-week work experience programme.

Sixth Form
Innovative learning
During the last two years, (Key Stage 5), students follow the British Baccalaureate “Advanced Level” in subjects of their choice. Our aim is for our students to become globally-minded professionals.
  • Students receive personalised advice from their teachers and tutors before making any important decisions concerning their future.
  • We encourage our students to study 4 or 5 specialised subjects, including Spanish A Level, which closely match their skills and professional aspirations.
  • We also offer a complimentary Spanish Studies program to prepare students for access to Spanish universities.
  • Our students can choose between either at Spanish universities, centres in the UK, or at any university in the world.

International Opportunities
